Batavia Illinois

Studio Fifth Sunday had the incredible opportunity to reimagine a truly unique building in Batavia, Illinois—formerly the Village Hall, jail, and electric company—into a vibrant event venue. Our clients envisioned a multifunctional space that could host everything from weddings to corporate events, as well as a stylish café with a shared kitchen. The building’s original stonework and old-world character provided a rich foundation to build on, sparking our inspiration to create a modern eclectic interior design that honors the past while boldly embracing the present.

Drawing from the building’s historic charm, we layered in modern materials and textures with a European flair, using thoughtful pops of color and a curated mix of styles to craft something truly special. Our design takes cues from the modern farmhouse trend but elevates it into a more refined and distinctive experience—perfect for an event space meant to feel both welcoming and unforgettable. The interplay between the original architecture and our fresh, eclectic design approach creates a space that feels timeless, yet distinctly modern.

One of the key challenges was thoughtfully incorporating ADA accessibility into this historic structure without compromising its character. While the building already had an elevator, it only reached certain areas, so we worked closely with our clients to improve flow and accessibility throughout. In addition, we designed a striking new rooftop structure above the café, creating a showstopping event space with sweeping views of the Fox River—an added feature that brings even more versatility and beauty to this one-of-a-kind venue.
