This Chicago interior design project focused on transforming a dated Tuscan-style home in the historic Kenwood neighborhood into a serene, transitional retreat for a busy family of four. When our clients purchased the property, it was filled with faux finishes and heavy textures that didn’t reflect their lifestyle or taste. Our goal was to breathe new life into the space using a calm, neutral palette accented with soft blues inspired by the nearby lake, balanced with warmer textures and materials to add depth and comfort throughout the home.

One of the standout transformations was the kitchen. We reimagined it with light blue-gray lower cabinets, a custom island, and a coordinating range hood to add subtle color and character. To create a sense of openness, we painted the upper cabinets the same soft tone as the walls, allowing them to blend seamlessly. This subtle yet impactful update gave the kitchen a refined, cohesive feel, aligning perfectly with the family’s desire for a light and modern aesthetic rooted in timeless design.

A unique challenge in this Chicago interior design project was the lack of a dedicated mudroom. The family room initially faced an entry area cluttered with shoes and coats—an everyday frustration. We reoriented the space by placing the TV on the opposite wall and selecting a backless sectional piece to maintain flow and visual connection to the fireplace. The fireplace wall was completely reworked to incorporate custom built-ins, including drawers for shoes and backpacks and concealed storage for coats. This thoughtful reconfiguration not only solved a functional problem but elevated the overall design and comfort of the space.
