Studio Fifth Sunday recently completed a stunning interior design transformation in McHenry, Illinois, turning a dated 1980s home into a breathtaking mid century modern retreat. Our clients came to us with a vision: to create a sophisticated, modern summer home that honors the wooded setting without leaning into a rustic or cabin aesthetic. With that in mind, we reimagined the entire space through a collaborative design process, blending warm modern tones, organic textures, and iconic mid century modern design principles.

The home’s architecture provided the perfect foundation for a mid century modern makeover. We introduced innovative materials and finishes that elevated both form and function. Thin slate panels were used to clad the main fireplace and range hood concealment, bringing a sleek, architectural feel to the heart of the home. Acoustical wood slat panels were installed strategically to reduce echo while complementing the home’s clean lines and natural palette. Every element was carefully curated to contribute to a unified and timeless design language.

This interior design project stands as a true testament to the power of thoughtful renovation and design collaboration.
